Each Youth is matched with a Career Advisor who will help develop a career plan and work toward finding and keeping a job, finishing High School or a GED, or getting training beyond high school. Financial assistance may be available. They can also help you with Resumes, Applications and interviewing, career guidance, financial literacy, paid work experience, transportation and more.

River Ranger (Multiple Positions) - Summer Job Opportunity

Trout Unlimited and the Huron Manistee National Forest are recruiting River Rangers for the 2023 summer season to work on Wild and Scenic Rivers (AuSable, Manistee, and Pine Rivers) in the Huron-Manistee National Forest. The River Rangers will spend time on a Wild and Scenic River and talk to recreational users about responsible river behavior. The River Rangers will go to river landings in the morning to check watercraft permit compliance and educate river users on rules and regulations and responsible river ethics as they prepare to get on the river. In the afternoon, interns will pick busy segments of the river to float in kayaks alongside other interns where they will make contacts with recreational users to ensure compliance as well as provide education on Leave No Trace principals, safety precautions, and stewardship of Michigan’s Wild and Scenic Rivers.

SURVEY TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM

6 Week Program is scheduled to begin in March 2023 and completed in early April 2023.

This program is intended to provide the fundamental skills required to become a survey technician and is designed to provide an overview of the technologies and their applications used by the survey and civil engineering industry.

MDOT Youth Development and Mentoring Program

We are looking for young adults 16 and over to fill positions in this program. This is a great summer job as well as mentoring opportunity.

TEAM LEADERS - Mentor High School students age 16 years and older - program runs May thru September. Salary $16-$17.50/hour

TEAM MEMBERS - 16-18 year old High School Students or recent graduates - program runs June thru September. Salary $14-$15.50. MDOT is looking to hire 3 more team members for their summer program!  This is an excellent paid opportunity that looks great on a resume.

MDOT - Michigan Department of Transportation - 2022 SUMMER APPRENTICE PROGRAM
- 20 week Internship program - June 1 thru mid/end October - full time, 40-hour work week, Monday thru Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm - $18.00/hour.

- 4 Applicants will be selected - Must be 18 years of age by June 1st. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks including bridge, culvert, sign and other general road maintenance throughout several counties in Northern Michigan. A vehicle will be provided for work travel.

- After successfully completing the 20 week program - Intern may be eligible for the 3 week CDL Training (worth $5,000).

297 Hours total – 25 hours per week instruction = 12 week program

18 and up. HS graduate or GED required. Michigan resident.

Cost:                 
$0 per participant (FREE), funding provided by MiLEAP

Schedule:       
January 23, 2023 – April 21, 2023 (one week off for spring break)

Credentials:     
Graduates will leave with NCCER accreditation.
NCCER is the commonly used acronym for the National Center for Construction Education and Research. The NCCER was founded in 1996 to standardize training and provide industry-recognized credentials for those working in the construction, maintenance, and pipeline industries.
